DRC Global Event on Climate Change, Environmental Degradation and Forced Displacement
The DRC Global Event is a culmination of a successful search by the Danish Refugee Council to mobilize new brain power to improve protection and humanitarian responses. This year, we have dedicated ourselves to the nexus between climate change, environmental degradation and forced displacement.
On 25 November, in a full-day virtual event, we invite you to join a number of technical expert conversations and key notes by Ms. Mary Robinson, Chair of the Elders, and Dr. Caroline Zickgraf, Deputy Director at the Hugo Observatory – all aimed to inspire the future work with climate change and forced displacement.
This year, at our very first DRC Global Event, we have selected to explore the pervasive agenda of climate change and environmental degradation and how it connects with forced displacement. Sourcing bold stakeholders, power and ideas, the DRC Global Event is bringing together experts, thinkers and new collaborators across industry, academic, tech, finance experts and the start-up community, to grow the understanding and work we need to undertake to address the challenges and opportunities of the climate change agenda impacting our work now and in the future.
As Denmark’s largest international NGO working in 40 countries across the globe in some of the most difficult situations and in emerging economies, and with a reach to more than 5,7 million displaced and vulnerable people we, at the Danish Refugee Council (DRC), are well-positioned to seek new ways of responding to these challenges. We cannot however do this alone. This is why we have embarked on a journey to set the stage for new ways of addressing the challenges posed by the climate crisis. The DRC Global Event is an endeavour set out to improve protection and response for displacement affected people by exploring and discussing key topics impacting our work with displacement affected.
At this very first DRC Global Event, we are aiming to inspire. With a successful launch event behind us, where we partnered up with practitioners such as LUSH or Pandora, followed by a series of eye-opening ‘response’ workshops and an exciting Hack4Humanity hackathon, organised in collaboration with the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), we wish to bring it together, so that we move forward collectively. This is why we hope you will join us.
