Brazil, Climate, Amazon, Bolsonaro – A left-wing perspective
Come and meet Sabrina Fernandes, sociologist and specialist in Marxist theory, feminism studies and environmental sociology. She is an active part of the left wing in Brazil and part of the steering committee of the global eco-socialist network. more info below.
She will talk about Brazil’s political climate, the left and the growing eco-socialist movement. She will reflect on the impacts of the recent report by IPCC and how it can affect international debates and policy choices leading up to COP26. As well as how the trade agreement between the EU and MERCOSUR will intensify the plunder of people and nature in Brazil as a result of a profit-oriented and unequal world.
Who is Sabrina Fernandes?
Sabrina Fernandes, Brazil, has a doctorate with specialization in political economy at Carleton University (Canada). She is a post-doctoral research fellow at IRGAC (Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung), in the Sociology Department at the University of Brasilia, and has just terminated a semester at Vienna University as Senior Research Fellow.
