17th – 24th April International week of Action against the International Finance Institution, IFIs.

This year marks the 60th year of the founding of the World Bank and IMF, several activities are planned to coincide with the institutions spring meetings to highlight the “devastating impact of their policies, programs and projects and to continue the campaign for global justice”, writes the Bank- and IMF-critical NGO, The Brettonwoods Project, on its website (see below).

April 17 – International Day of Farmers struggles coordinated by Via Campesina
April 16th – 19th – Jubilee South conference on illegitimate debt
April 23rd – 24th morning – Teach-in
April 24th afternoon – mobilization on IFIs, big protest during the actual meetings of the IMF/WB coordinated by Mobilization for Global Justice
Launch of Global petition drive – signatures to be delivered at the fall meetings
April 22nd – The Religious Working Group on the WB and IMF will be staging an event on the 22nd to highlight accounts of the human suffering caused by IMF/WB policies and projects.
April 22nd – 23rd – Conference by 50 years is enough
April 21st – “Unhappy birthday” campaign by Jubilee South, delivering 10.000 – 15.000 signed postcards that call on the IMF-World Bank to cancel 100 per cent of impoverished country debt without conditions.
April 21st – Press conference to highlight several issues
IRN event on Infrastructure Action plan with specific focus on dam projects in India
Sign-on letter to new MIGA head
Sign-on letter against water privatisation
Speaking tours bringing activists from the Global South to communities around the US
