United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon Friday announced the appointment of Robert Glasser as Assistant Secretary-General and Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction, the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR).

Mr. Glasser (56) has over 20 years of experience in disaster response and fighting poverty. Currently, he is the Executive-in-Residence at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP), where he has focussed on the humanitarian impacts of climate change.
Prior to this role, Mr. Glasser worked with CARE International, where he had been Secretary General from 2008 untill April 2015.
Before joining CARE International, Mr. Glasser was Chief Executive of CARE Australia, overseeing aid and humanitarian relief programmes in Cambodia, Vietnam, Papua New Guinea and the Middle East.
He previously held the post of Assistant Director General of his homelands governmental aid programme – Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID = det australske Danida).
Dr Glasser has also worked on international energy and environmental policy for the US Department of Energy at Cornell University's Peace Studies Program and the Centre for International and Strategic Affairs at the University of California.
Born in 1959, Mr. Glasser holds a PhD in International Relations (Strategic Studies) from the Australian National University. He is married with three children.
