UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Louise Arbour Tuesday began a visit to Bolivia where she is expected to wrap up an agreement to establish a presence for her office there.

As part of its plans to expand its operations and champion the cause of human rights, Bolivia and Togo are two countries where the High Commissioner will open new offices this year.

In the capital city, La Paz, Ms. Arbours itinerary includes meetings with Government officials, Bolivias human rights Ombudsman and civil society members. She will visit an Aymara indigenous community located outside La Paz.

The High Commissioners previous stop was to Panama, where yesterday she concluded an agreement with the Government to open a Regional Office there.

Ms. Arbours visit to the Andean country will conclude on Friday.
