Det Dansk Egyptiske Dialog Institut (DEDI) samarbejder med International Media Support og en række egyptiske kulturinstitutioner om at organisere den første fotomarathon i Cairo lørdag den 15. januar.

CAIRO, 12 January 2011 (DEDI):
The thematic focus of the premiere Cairo Photo Marathon will be on gender relations in the Egyptian metropolis.

DEDI and IMS have invited Egyptian writer and comedian Motaz Attalla to write the marathon themes. Attalla has developed themes that are at once idiomatic and familiar, with the promise of playful interpretation especially surrounding the issues of gender in the city.

The Cairo Photo Marathon is a one-day photography challenge, organized by volunteers and photo enthusiasts and open for professionals and amateurs with an interest in photography. It is held across numerous world cities at various dates throughout the year.

Inspired by the Danish Photo Marathon, the pilot event in Cairo will run for two phases of 6 and 12 hours on Saturday January 15, 2011. The anchor spot of the Photo Marathon will be the Townhouse Gallery, Downtown Cairo.

A jury consisting of three recognized photographers and cultural figures will select the winning images. The winning photographs will receive prizes that include professional cameras, and photography courses at the Contemporary Image Collective. In addition, a total number of 65 photographs will be exhibited at a subsequent exhibition in March 2011.
