SANTIAGO DE CHILE, 20 May 2009: In spite of the global financial crisis, foreign direct investment continued to flow into Latin America and the Caribbean during 2008, although it is expected to drop this year.

This data is included in the ECLAC (UN Economic Commission for Latin Amerca and the Caribbean) report Foreign Investment in Latin America and the Caribbean 2008, to be presented at a press conference on Wednesday. The report will be presented by ECLAC Executive Secretary Alicia Bárcena.

The report, one of ECLAC’s flagship publications, provides a complete analysis of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the region, divided in four chapters:

1. FDI and transnational corporations

2. FDI in business off shoring services

3. Integrated Hotel and real estate complexes: investments and business strategies

4. International arbitration based on investor-State dispute settlement clauses in international investment agreements

A summary of the document will be available in Spanish and English on the ECLAC website as of Wednesday, May 27 at 12 noon in Chile (4 p.m. GMT).
