Dansk forsker ser på udviklingen i det hidtil så tillukkede og isolerede asiatiske land, som oplever demokratisk nybrud og åbenhed efter fem årtiers militærstyre – men hvor reel er åbningen?
In Focus: Burma – a country opening up?
After 50 years of isolation Burma is finally opening up to the outside world. According to the media the country is now welcoming tourists, foreign investment and development aid.
But exactly what does the picture of openness look like in reality?
Marie Ditlevsen, master’s student in International Development Studies at Roskilde University, recently spent a month doing fieldwork studies on the development of civil society in Burma.
In her article “Myanmar (Burma) – a country opening up?” published on the In Focus blog on the AsiaPortal she tells of the challenges and restrictions she experienced as a foreign researcher working in a Burma undergoing political change – se http://infocus.asiaportal.info/2012/12/21/myanmar-a-country-opening-up
