A conference of rich countries will take place in Geneva next week to assess Pakistans needs for rebuilding its earthquake-devastated north. The conference called by the United Nations would be held on Monday October 24 – the UN Day.

Meanwhile, thousands of injured people languished without shelter and medical care in villages across the earthquake-stricken region of Kashmir Tuesday, as authorities warned that exposure and infections could drive the death toll up from 54.000 as the harsh Himalayan winter loomed.

More than 1,1 million jobs may have been lost due to the south Asian earthquake that devastated parts of Pakistan, the International Labor Organization (ILO) said.

ILO estimates that total employment in the affected areas was around 2,4 million at the time of the disaster and that over 2 million of these workers and their families were living below the poverty line of less than two US dollar (12 DKR) per person per day before the disaster struck.
