The Financial Express of India reports the Indian finance ministry is considering to pre-pay a debt component of 2-3 billion US dollar (12,2 – 18,3 milliarder DKR) to multilateral agencies like the Asian Development Bank and World Bank, sources said.
In the interim budget, former finance minister Jaswant Singh had announced pre-payment of 3,5 billion dollar to the multilateral agencies, primarily ADB. Sources said that pre-payment of high cost debt – both domestic and foreign – will help in containing the fiscal deficit in the long term.
