A Care-full Economy – Feminist Perspective on Degrowth w/ Rebecca Rutt
Transforming our economy and society must start with meaningful recognition of the labor and relations of care, which are fundamental to all ecologies and economies. This talk will engage with the idea of a ‘care-full’ economy, that is one that centers care – for other humans and other species and for ecological systems – in a socio-economic system. It touches upon how feminist scholarship has been inspired by but also advanced Marxist and ecological economic proposals for alternative economies and explains how we must understand care – including how neoliberalism has tried, insufficiently, to respond to our collective care needs. It also explores some proposals for alternative work culture, institutions, and policy and financial tools that may help build care-full economies.
After the talk, everyone is welcome to continue the conversation over a beer or soda.
The talk is part of Global Aktion’s ‘Thursday talk’, which takes place every other Thursday until July.
Global Aktion is a solidarity organization that works with grassroots organizations in the global South to fight global inequality.
