Climate Breakfast Seminar Series: Climate Change, Social Change and Governance – Prof. Emily Boyd (webinar)

The Centre for International Law and Governance (CILG), the Copenhagen Center for Disaster Research (COPE) of the Faculty of Law, University of Copenhagen, and the student association Casus Clima are happy to announce the Seventh Climate Breakfast Seminar by Professor Emily Boyd, Centre for Sustainability Studies (LUCSUS), Lund University.

The seminar will address Prof. Boyd’s research on why society has been unable to respond to climate change showing how institutions can constrain participation and pose limits to adaptation. Prof. Boyd will speak about her work on politics of adaptation and loss and damage from climate change. More specifically, she will address why some communities and peoples are disproportionately exposed to and affected by climate change, and under what circumstances people are able to take long-term collective action. Boyd has identified a gap in the ‘socialization’ of attribution science, in particular of climatescience to incorporate social conditions in vulnerability and in how communities and people respond to climate extremes. Since 2015 she has been collaborating with legal scholars on adaptation and legal consciousness on effects of everyday adaptation actions and resistance, as well as on developing research on disaster law, attribution, and societal responses to climate change. 

The Climate Breakfast Seminar Series was launched in June 2019 as a platform to provide expert insights on crucial contemporary climate change issues.
