Covid-19 and Political Elections in Africa: General trends and the case of Ghana and Tanzania
Centre of African Studies (CAS) invites you to join the Africa Seminar titled “Covid-19 and Political elections in Africa: General trends and the case of Ghana and Tanzania” where a roundtable will discuss the short-term political implication related to election process during 2020 in selected African countries.
In this Africa Seminar, we welcome the three keynote speakers:
Dr. George M. Bob-Milliar: The implications of Covid-19 on elections in Ghana
George M. Bob-Milliar is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of History and Political Studies, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and currently serving as the Director of KNUST’s Centre for Cultural and African Studies (CeCASt). Trained as an interdisciplinary scholar, his research lies at the intersection of history, political science, and development studies.
Sammy Awami: Covid-19 and the 2020 elections in Tanzania
Sammy Awami is a freelance journalist and policy analyst. He has more than 15 years’ experience working in Tanzanian media. Currently, he is a stringer for Al Jazeera in Tanzania, but before that, he was the BBC’s World Service correspondent in Tanzania, a position he held for 5 years. Sammy Awami has an MSc Public Policy from University College London (UCL).
Stig Jensen: Preliminary analysis of short-term political implications in African countries during the Covid-19 pandemic, based on a comparative study of elections across Africa
Stig Jensen is Associate Professor at CAS. He is author of the book chapter “Zimbabwe: Born democratically but the people still struggle for democracy” in the book: “The crisis of democracy and the new autocracies” Peter Seeberg & Mikkel Thorup (Ed.) 2020: Demokratiets krise og de nye autokratier.
