DIIS-seminar: Political technologies and disinformation around the globe (København)
New technologies are employed around the world to supress political opponents, destabilize authorities and challenge democracy. Governments, political groups and insurgents alike put to use social media and digital technology to further their political and economic ambitions. Upsurges in digital media users and a monopoly of information and news risk spurring violence and conflict from South Africa to Myanmar, as digital operations wreak havoc.
This DIIS seminar will open up the broad field of political technologies to see how these are currently shaping political and social life around the Global South. It brings together researchers who have monitored the global organization of digital manipulation and explored political technologies at large.
The seminar coincides with the launch of a new Danish book by DIIS Researcher Adam Fejerskov on the political and social ramifications of new technologies.
