Film screening: With Our Eyes – Reversing the White Gaze (København)
Marronage and Union KBH invite you to a friday bar with a screening of “With Our Eyes” (41 min.) made by journalist and visual anthropologist Laura Na in collaboration with Ribka Maria Pattinama Coleman and the five main characters Hanna El Gourfti, Kevin Shakir, Manilla Ghafuri, Younas Trap Oubelaid, Nadeen Aiche.
In Denmark no one seems to remember the horrors of the European past and what happened the last time a large group of people was deemed undesirable. In the film, a group of five young Muslims meets to experiment with roleplay and reenactment, offering the audience a rare insight into their daily lives and how it feels to be the target of public debate and to experience everyday encounters with prejudices and racism.
‘With Our Eyes’ shares dreams and conversations about how to break ruling stereotypes of the Muslim while discussing paths to liberation.
The film both serves as a historical document of a Copenhagen based resistance towards Danish policies of segregation and discrimination, while it pays hommage to those movements and individuals that currently are proving us different means of resistance.
This evening Laura Na and the team will be present to show and present the film. Afterwards Marronage will facilitate a conversation among the filmmakers and the audience.
The event is free but please buy refreshments in the bar to support Together WE PUSH, that every week provides food and social activities for the incarcerated people in deportation camp Sjælsmark
The film has english subtitles but the conversation will be in Danish.
Please register your tickets on the billetto link in order to participate.
