Gender and digital violence in transnational perspective
Digital violence hurts and shames via exposure often in connection with nakedness and sexual acts. It challenge our everyday understanding of violence as a physical act that is temporary. The gendered nature of digital violence is often explicit in its intimate dependence on gender norms and exposure. Therefore, digital violence is not only producing victims or survivors; it is gendering our social world.
On October 8th KVINFO and OXFAM Ibis will address the connections between gender and digital violence and you are invited.
This event will shed light on and discuss the gendered nature of digital violence and the methods that are developed to prevent it in a transnational perspective, especially with focus on the Arab region compared to Denmark.
You will gain new perspectives on how to deal with and prevent digital violence, so we hope you will join.
The event will start with a presentation by Maia Kahlke Lorentzen. She is an expert in cyber security at ‘Cybernauterne’ and co-founder of the tech-activist network of DO:TOPIA: “Free speech, bitch! – Gendered digital violence in Denmark”. Additionally cases from Denmark, Egypt and Jordan will be presented by Motoon, Miriam Michaelsen (Digitalt Ansvar) and by Jordanian Women’s Union. There will be time for the participants to engage in a debate in relation to the issues.
Participation is free, but due to Corona restrictions, the number of seats are limited, so please register at [email protected]
It will be possible to watch the event on Facebook via streaming on KVINFOs Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/kvinfo.dk
