Human Rights Day: Aids og kvinders seksuelle og reproduktive rettigheder (København)

Human Rights Day event hosted by Ministry of Foreign Affairs and AIDS-Fondet

Four decades of the AIDS response has heralded significant success. Yet, women and girls continue to bear the brunt of the epidemic as pervasive gender inequality and discrimination undermine progress.

In particular, adolescent girls and young women aged 15-24 are disproportionally affected by the epidemic. Every week, close to 7,000 adolescent girls and young women are newly infected with HIV and in sub-Saharan Africa, they are twice as likely to be living with HIV as their male counterparts. For women aged 15-49, AIDS-related illnesses remain to be the leading cause of death globally.

The Human Rights Day 2018 is an opportune moment to highlight the need to put women’s empowerment and sexual and reproductive health and rights at the very heart of the global AIDS response. With a holistic and sustainable approach, we can safeguard the equal rights of women and girls.

By bringing together pro equality influencers, private sector and civil society, we aim to encourage partnerships and further actions to close the gender gap in the global AIDS response and ensure that no one is left behind.

When we invest in women and girls, we invest in the future. And by joining forces, we can end AIDS.

For good.
