Perspectives of global civil society – people power under attack (København)

Take part in a conversation with Lysa John Berna, Secretary General at CIVICUS.

CIVICUS Monitor 2019 reports that:

“Fundamental freedoms of association, peaceful assembly and expression are backsliding across the world.”

and

“40% of the world’s population now live in repressed countries – last year it was 19%.”

On that background, the future for civil society across the globe looks grim and dangerous.

With global leader on civil society, Lysa John Berna, CISU in collaboration with Globalt Fokus are inviting Danish civil society organisations for a discussion and conversation with Lysa John Berna on global trends, civic space, global social protests and civic engagement.

Lysa will introduce with elements from the key annual report on shrinking civic space – PEOPLE POWER UNDER ATTACK, recently published by CIVICUS, based on data from the CIVICUS Monitor.

The conversation with Lysa John Berna will continue in areas of:

– Global trends from a global civil society perspective

– Civic space – fights and challenges: And what should we do about it?

– Current global social protests vs. established NGOs role?

– Civic engagement: how does it look like from a global perspective. What are the expectations to northern civil society?

For all Danish civil society organisations and others with an interest in global civil society and shrinking space.
