Presentation of the 2021 OECD DAC peer review of Denmark (København)
The OECD’s Development Assistance Committee (DAC) conducts peer reviews of individual members once every five to six years. Reviews seek to improve the quality and effectiveness of members’ development co-operation, highlighting good practices and recommending improvements.
Denmark’s development co-operation is integrated into its foreign policy. Denmark provides 0.7% of its national income as official development assistance and in its official policies Denmark champions gender equality, human rights and democracy, transparent communication and the empowerment of its partners. Climate change and irregular migration increasingly shape Denmark’s approach to development co-operation and Denmark has invested significantly in the humanitarian-development-peace nexus in fragile contexts. The adopted Doing Development Differently approach is interesting as it may enable flexible budgets and trusting partnerships.
How does the peer review assess this approach? Does it support long-term development and poverty reduction? How does it relate to ideas about partnership and ownership? The seminar focuses on the main conclusions of the peer review and invites for a discussion of strengths and weaknesses of Danish development cooperation.
The review can be found here.
