Presentation of the Mixed Migration Review 2019 (København)

What does the future hold for migration, refugees, mixed migration and irregular mobility?

What is the future labour migration and asylum space, considering the shift towards increased nationalism and moves against multinationalism at a time when the world is facing global problems that need coherent joint approaches?

How will the issues of displacement and forced migration be affected by inequality, poor governance, environmental stressors and the international community’s response to these challenges?

Can we realistically predict or forecast what the future trends will be?

The Mixed Migration Review 2019 (MMR 2019) focuses on the future of mixed migration. In the different essays we explore the effect of change in a broad range of areas such as the securitisation of migration, the climate, artificial intelligence, the economy, demographics and politics. The MMR 2019 includes regional migration outlooks, as well as interviews with a wide range of experts and thinkers coming from the different disciplines covered in the report, UN officials as well as political pundits and leaders, and the individual stories of refugees and migrants on the move.

The presentation of the Mixed Migration Review will be followed by a panel debate including two selected topics of the MMR 2019.

What will be the impact on labour market dynamics? What will be the implications for protection of people migrating? And what impact will AI and the use of drones have on securitization of borders?

Climate change & mixed migration
Changes and environmental stressors affecting human populations and mobility are well underway and are a key element of future migration scenarios. What impact will climate change have on displacement and migration levels nationally and internationally in the future? How will people move? And what will be the legal status and possibilities for protection of people displaced by climate change?
