Research and Reports on Localisation of Humanitarian Aid (København)

Since the World Humanitarian Summit in 2016 called for humanitarian aid to be “as local as possible, as international as necessary”, there has been an increasing interest in exploring the notion of ‘localisation’. Many aid organisations, research institutes and think-tanks have engaged in different kinds of research initiatives, including organisation specific reports, as well as long-term and in-dpeth studies, developed with universities and academia. All these initiatives are important to learn from and they are key to informing how a localisation approach is best implemented in practice.

Save the Children Denmark is hosting an event Research and Reports on Localisation of humanitarian aid on Tuesday 3rd March 9.00 – 11.30 at Globalt Fokus Salen, Rysensteensgade 3, 1564 København V. The session aims at creating increased awareness of current research and reports on localisation and discuss how localisation practice can be increasingly informed by and build on new knowledge.

• The landscape of localisation of humanitarian aid research: an introduction to the literature – Katja Rosenstock, Senior Partnership Advisor, Save the Children Denmark
• Everyday Humanitarianism in Tanzania: presentation of the Danish Fellowship Centre (FFU) project exploring how people interact in everyday situations to respond to crisis outside of formal structures of humanitarian assistance – Lisa Ann Richey, Professor, Department of Management, Society and Communication, Copenhagen Business School
• Views from the Ground: presentation of reports exploring the perspectives on localisation in the Horn of Africa and Sulawesi earthquake in Indonesia – Katja Rosenstock, Senior Partnership Advisor, Save the Children Denmark
• Unpacking localisation: presentation of report on localised approaches to humanitarian assistance – joined remotely by Jeremy Wellard, Regional Representative for Asia and the Pacific, International Council of Voluntary Agencies (ICVA)
• Integrating evidence of what works into the humanitarian ecosystem – Lars Peter Nissen, Director, ACAPS

The event will be moderated by Line Friberg Nielsen, Senior Policy and Advocacy Advisor, Save the Children Denmark.

Practical Information
This is a public event open to all interested. It will be held in English and live streamed.

The event will one of various events organised as part of Localisation Week (3 – 5th March), which includes events and workshops focused on innovation, complementarity and meaningful participation, organised in collaboration with Mellemfolkeligt Samvirke, Oxfam IBIS, Globalt Fokus.
