This public seminar takes stock of the global jihadi movement 20 years after 9/11. Leading scholars who have studied the development of Al-Qaeda and the Islamic State, especially with regards to the competition between the two movements, will share their thoughts on the internal debates and divisions within the jihadi movement today.
The first part of the seminar will look at overall trends that divide or unite the global jihadi movement, while the second part will zoom in on particular conflict zones in order to shed light on how the Al-Qaeda-Islamic State rivalry plays out in different local and regional conflict settings.
