Webinar: Future strategic directions for Danish development research

The Association of Development Researchers in Denmark (FAU) and the Danish Institute for International Studies (DIIS) have the pleasure of inviting you to an interactive webinar on ‘Future strategic directions for Danish development research’ on Thursday June 25 from 14.00-15.30.

The Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs is preparing a new strategy on development research, and discussions have already taken place at multiple sites to inform the work of the ministry. To inform the process, the MFA has commissioned an evaluation report of support to Danish development research 2008-2018. Representatives from the MFA will listen in at the seminar. This webinar is a crucial opportunity to influence the future strategic direction of Danish development research and its funding from the MFA including the Consultative Research Committee (FFU).

The webinar will ensure space for a diversity of discussions on the future of Danish development research. Still, we single out three main areas of deliberation that will structure the debate and which we invite you to consider beforehand.

• The impact of development research: What does important impact look like today for development research, academically, socially etc? What is the ideal relationship between research, policy and implementation?
• Multi/interdisciplinarity: How should development research (and its funding schemes) deal with the interdisciplinary nature of contemporary development challenges? How do we break down silos and traditional disciplinary walls to encourage interdisciplinary excellency in development research?
• Development research and its form: Where should development research take place? What should it explore or not explore? Whom should it target and together with whom should it work? i.e. how does the changing nature of partnerships, geographies and knowledges shape future Danish development research?
