Kenya skal huse stort bistandsmøde om at bekæmpe fattigdom til november

NEW YORK, April 1, 2016: The Government of Kenya Friday announced that it will host the second high-level meeting of the Global Partnership for Effective Development Co-operation, an inclusive global forum which helps governments, businesses and civil society to work better together to end poverty.

The meeting will take place at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre in Nairobi from 28 November to 1 December 2016.
 
One year after the United Nations adopted the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs = dagsorden 2030)), the Nairobi high-level meeting will prioritise actions to make development co-operation more effective across a diverse group of actors.

To achieve the SDGs by 2030, it is vital to agree on specific policies and actions that will minimize transaction costs for developing countries and improve the quality of development co-operation partnerships. Delivering on financial commitments is also essential.

“Inclusive partnerships and spirit of togetherness in addressing global challenges like poverty, accountability to the citizens and sharing of best practices are critical if we are to achieve prosperity for all and eliminate global poverty,” said Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta during a meeting with GPEDC Co-chairs this past December.

“Implementing this ambitious and universal vision will require all development partners – from governments to civil society to the private sector – to work together to ensure effective development in a spirit of give and take”, added he.
 
The meeting will be a watershed event, setting priorities for improving development co-operation in the 2030 era. 

It will be a unique platform for Heads of State, Ministers, heads of major international organisations and leaders from civil society, the private sector and foundations to showcase successes, as well as identify and scale up innovative approaches to sustainable development. 

Parliamentarians and representatives of local and regional governments will also share their views on how to achieve sustainable development.

Nairobi will be an opportunity to move from theory to action. The meeting will highlight how governments, business, foundations and civil society can partner with each other to implement the ambitious SDGs ensuring that no-one is left behind.
 
The outcome document of the meeting in Nairobi will set a course for achieving the SDGs by 2030. It will outline what each development actor will do in partnership with others to achieve sustainable development.
 
The Nairobi meeting will comprise two days of preparatory sessions and two days of high level discussions. The preparatory sessions will include a stock-taking on the second GPEDC monitoring round and opportunities for a range of stakeholders to meet in advance of the high-level segment.

The meeting will also feature a marketplace promoting technology, innovation and successful implementation.

The Global Partnership for Effective Development Co-operation (GPEDC) is an inclusive global forum bringing together a broad range of development actors to strengthen the quality, impact and effectiveness of development co-operation ensuring it has maximum impact on development results.

The Global Partnership aims to ensure that development cooperation – including Official Development Assistance (ODA) and other forms of development finance –are based on the principles of country ownership, achieving results, inclusive partnerships, and transparency and accountability.

These principles are firmly anchored in the Addis Ababa Action Agenda agreed at the 3^rd International Conference on Financing for Development in July 2015.

The Global Partnership is co-chaired by Goodall Edward Gondwe, Minister of Finance, Economic Planning & Development, Malawi; Claudia Ruiz Massieu Salinas, Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Mexico; and Lilianne Ploumen, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation, The Netherlands.  

A 24-member multi-stakeholder Steering Committee provides strategic guidance, representing governments; civil society organizations; parliamentarians; the private sector; foundations; local and regional governments; and international organizations. The OECD and UNDP provide support to the Global Partnership.
