The World Bank is providing Mexico with more than 200 million US dollar (1,1 milliard DKR) in loans to help it deal with an outbreak of a new strain of swine flu.

World Bank President Robert Zoellick said he mobilized the bank’s staff two days ago, when he first heard about the outbreak.

He said the bank could help Mexico cut through procurement bureaucracy and respond more quickly to the crisis.

The World Bank is granting Mexico an immediate loan of 25 million dollar (knap 142 mio. DKR) to help with medicine and medical equipment and is to provide a further 180 million dollar (1,02 mia. DKR) to help Mexico set up operations to deal with the outbreak.
