WASHINGTON, 19 May 2009: The Inter-American Culture and Development Foundation (ICDF), a nonprofit organization commited to support cultural development, will launch the Bank of Musical Instruments, an initiative that aims to provide poor children in Latin America and the Caribbean with donated instruments. The event will take place on Tuesday, May 26.

The program’s goal is to strengthen music programs in Latin America and the Caribbean through the collection and donation of instruments, as well as through other cultural activities. OAS Secretary General José Miguel Insulza will attend the launching and signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with ICDF President Cosette Alves.

The ICDF will also sign agreements with the Fundación Batuta, a well-known music program in Colombia, with the international concert touring company Classical Movements, which specializes in Latin American and Caribbean orchestras and choruses, and with Airline Ambassadors, which will transport the instruments.

Founded at the initiative of the Inter-American Development Bank in 2005, the ICDF helps cultural organizations become more competitive and sustainable and directs its efforts toward reaffirming culture as a tool of change while highlighting its social and economic development role in Latin America and the Caribbean.
