As state authorities struggle to deliver adequate services and housing, it is people like those we meet in these portraits who are making true on the spirit of their words. In homes throughout these countries, people are making connections across cultural divides and through language barriers.
UNHCR and photographer Aubrey Wade are working together to highlight these acts of compassion, producing images shot in the tradition of family portraiture that expose new friendships, flat-shares and family constellations, and reflect individual responses to a current and ongoing global issue.
