The Swedish Government has appointed a new Programme and Research Council for the Nordic Africa Institute (NAI) in Uppsala, Sweden.

The Programme and Research Council has the task of monitoring and advising NAI Director, Carin Norberg. NAI is co-financed by the Nordic countries with Sweden as the biggest donor.

Each Nordic country has two members on this Council – one from the research community and one from the foreign office and/or aid administration. Uppsala university library also has one member due to its close collaboration with the Institute.

Representatives from Denmark

– Niels Kastfelt, Director, Centre for African Studies, University of Copenhagen.
Background and African experience: Research in West Africa, Nigeria. Modern history and religion. Long teaching experience on and in Africa.

Background and African experience: Researcher and teacher in international law, human rights, EU law and Swedish constitutional law since 1993. Doctoral degree in international law 1992. Has dealt with the practice of the African Commission on Human and Peoples Rights in her research, particularly as to consideration by the Commission of individual complaints against states regarding human rights violations.

Background and African experience: Professor of comperative and international private law at Uppsala University.
