In Focus: Thailand’s Political Conflict – A Jasmine Revolution?
This time last year there were large scale demonstrations on the streets of Bangkok, much like what we have recently seen in Tunis and Kairo.
But even though the Red shirt activists in Bangkok were also opposing and demanding the resignation of the government in power, the situation in Thailand is quite different from the circumstances which led to the downfall of the governments in Tunisia and Egypt, at least so far.
In this week’s In Focus blog on the AsiaPortal Christian Stampe Jensen, MA student in Thai and Southeast Asian studies at Copenhagen University and presently at NIAS, looks at the factors behind the political turmoil in Thailand and possible upcoming changes.
