The third Freemuse “World Conference on Music and Censorship” takes place in Istanbul, Turkey, on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 November.

Musicians and music presenters affected by music censorship around the globe testify at the conference while speakers and participants discuss music censorship and freedom of musical expression in Cuba, the Middle East, West Africa, Indonesia, Belarus, China, Zimbabwe and several other countries.

Recent research on music censorship is presented by leading researchers and media people. The conference is hosted by Bilgi Üniversitesi in Istanbul – a meeting place of cultures and civilisations.

The conference is attended by more than 200 people. Registration has closed.

The first World Conference on Music and Censorship took place in November 1998. The conference created an international forum for the study and discussion of the censorship of music for the first time ever.

As a result of the conference Freemuse – the World Forum on Music and Censorship – was founded in 1999 and established its secretariat in Copenhagen in 2000. The second World conference on Music and Censorship took place in 2002.

Freemuse receives core funding from SIDA in Sweden and Danida.
