German development cooperation will soon pay greater attention to human rights, according to the first development Action Plan for Human Rights 2004-2007, which was presented on Wednesday by German minister for development cooperation Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul, reports the World Bank press review Thursday
The plan includes 17 action points to strengthen human rights, with the right to food being the central focal point. Another important issue of consideration is womens rights. The latter are key to reduce global poverty, the plan said.
Initiatives to reduce the exclusion of women and girls will thus transcend all aspects of German development work. Further, the Action Plan will focus on humane work conditions, ILO labor norms, and corruption.
