The World Bank is proposing a total of 6,5 billion US dollar (33,8 milliarder DKR) in assistance to Pakistan under a Country Partnership Strategy (CPS) for the next four years (2010-13) currently under preparation, according to World Bank Country Director Yusupha Crookes.
The World Banks executive board is expected to give the CPS a go ahead nod by the end of March 2010. A major part of the funds would be directed toward the energy sector, with 200 million dollar for a natural gas efficiency and production enhancement.
The World Bank will provide Pakistan 4 billion dollar under Interna-tional Development Assistance (IDA) (i rente- og afdragsfrie lån) and some 2,5 billion is expected to be made available to the troubled Asian country under International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD) terms.
He made it clear that IBRDs lending would be subject to Pakistans economic performance as good performance would lead to further increase in IBRD lending and otherwise the IBRD lending volume could remain low against the commitment during the said period.
Meanwhile, Pakistans Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said in Dubai on Tuesday, that development programs in violence-plagued areas of his country are an essential part of the governments fight against (islamic) militants.
