A World Bank study reckons that Nepal is at crossroad between the prospect of accelerating national development and the danger of serious reversals of the gains achieved in the past, reports the World Bank press review Thursday.
There are considerable risks for the medium term prospects for Nepal, particularly from escalating conflict, policy implementation capacity and external conditions, stated the study titled “Nepal Development Policy Review: Restarting Growth and Poverty Reduction,” which was made available in Katmandu Thursday.
– The first and most lethal risk comes from conflict that have created instability and uncertainty about institutions, rules and laws, the study said, adding: – While the second risk arises from the tension between the substantial reform agenda and the governments capacity to implement it.
The World Bank has also put forward a draft proposal to the Nepali government to review the countrys economic policies when its economy is in doldrums because of the ongoing conflict and violence due to the anti-government insurgency.
