The Monitor of Kampala reports that the World Bank has cut its aid to Uganda. This follows the donors dissatisfaction with the Miuseveni-governments over-expenditure on public administration, contrary to what was agreed upon in the budget.
The World Bank mission in Kampala said in a brief statement that the Bank was pleased with Ugandas progress in many of the areas covered by PRSC5. Of the ten agreed actions, Uganda passed ten and failed on one.
– We are however very concerned about one prior action that was only partially met in the area dealing with overruns in the public administration budget, which come at the expense of additional funding to the sectors that are critical to poverty reduction, the statement, heavily couched in diplomatic language says.
