Dr. Lee Jong-wook, the Director-General of the UN World Health Organization (WHO), is currently recovering from surgery at the Cantonal Hospital in Geneva after the removal of a blood clot from his brain, the agency reported Saturday.
Dr. Lee had suddenly fallen Saturday afternoon while attending an official function. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital, where medical staff determined that he required surgery in order to remove the blood clot on his brain.
WHO reported that its 61-year old Director-General is expected to remain in the hospital “for some time” and noted that he would not be able to attend the World Health Assembly set to run all next week.
