Hedebølge i Californien.

After two years of intense work by the Project Department of Nepenthes, at the end of 2009 Danidas Board (U-landsstyrelsen) approved Nepenthes application for a programme agreement.

It focuses on fighting poverty and deforestation by means of sustainable forestry and sustainable tourism. For the first three years of the programme, a total budget of about 43 million DKR has been allocated.

As part of the programme application process, Nepenthes has undergone an external capacity assessment, which stated, among other conclusions, that: Nepenthes is an environmental and development organisation, which combines a professionally qualified Project Department with a corps of volunteers driven by commitment, creativity and expertise in pursuit of a shared relevant goal.

After the recent establishment of cooperation with the Bolivian organisation CEJIS, the first step has been taken towards Nepenthes’s future engagement in Bolivia, where an actual development intervention is expected to be launched in the second half of 2010

Nepenthes entering Bolivia

From 2010 onwards, Nepenthes will begin to work with the development of sustainable natural-resource management in the Bolivian lowlands in cooperation with local NGOs and the indigenous movement.

Just as in Nepenthes’s partnerships in Central America (Mellemamerika), our effort in Bolivia seeks to support strategies which generate lasting incomes for the target group and hence strengthen their organisations as well as their social and cultural life, while producing a positive effect on the local and global environment.
