Beskatningens voksende betydning i u-landene

The concern with taxation has experienced a renaissance in recent years.

With the increasing number of middle-income countries and the mounting challenges of global crises of all sorts, the inadequacy of development assistance has become a matter of fact, and attention has turned towards the mobilization of domestic revenues.

A further argument for the strengthening of taxation is its supposedly positive impact on state effectiveness and accountability. People who pay tax demand effective services.

  • However, how do we go about researching the dynamics of taxation and governance?
  • What are the approaches we use and how do we uncover the often informal politics around tax and bargaining over resources?
  • How do we, for example, understand the dynamics of tax exemptions (skattefritagelse – ikke skatteunddragelse)?
  • How do we increase knowledge about how taxation reforms should be organized to benefit society?

Er et-partistaten fremtidens udviklingsmodel?

Development paths are diverse and often tumultuous.

While spared neighboring countries’ experience with civil war, TANZANIA has gone from a socialist experiment to one-party capitalism somewhat mirroring the development of China and Vietnam.

Moreover, Tanzania is sometimes highlighted as the prime example of how foreign aid does not work and sometimes as a stable country with significant economic growth the last twenty years.

  • How should one interpret the country’s 55 years of independent development?
  • Was socialism just a mistake?
  • Or is the dominance of a single party the development model of tomorrow?
