EUs nye globale strategi

In June 2016, the European Union will launch a new Global Strategy for its Foreign and Security Policy.

By assessing challenges and opportunities in today’s world, the Global Strategy will “forge a stronger and more effective EU foreign policy and engage the public on debates about foreign policy.”

Against this background, the first half of this year is devoted to a reflection and outreach process across all EU member states on the priorities of the new strategic document.

This event, co-organized by the Danish Institute for International Studies, the EU Institute for Security Studies (EUISS) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, constitutes the Danish contribution to the EU Global Strategy and will focus on the Arctic.

Arktis i fremtiden

The world’s Northernmost region is getting warmer – both climatically and politically.

We can expect a significant increase in activities in the Arctic in the decades to come, and the EU has a strategic interest in ensuring a stable, prosperous, safe and sustainable North.

In such an environment, states cooperate constructively, peoples prosper, and new potentials for transit and natural resources are managed effectively with respect for international law.

The EU is a strategic partner to the Arctic region: by strengthening concrete cooperation the EU and the Arctic can grow even closer ties.

The conference will debate the Arctic in a global perspective and look into the future, at the benefits and potentials that a peaceful Artic can deliver to peoples and countries alike.
