“If 1989 saw the end of the ‘Second World’ with Communism’s demise, then 2009 saw the end of what was known as the ‘Third World’”, Robert Zoellick, president of the World Bank, famously declared in April 2010.

“We are now in a new, fast-evolving multipolar world economy – where North and South, East and West are now points on a compass, not economic destinies”, he continued.

A year later, the World Bank releases its first major report that seeks to chart the contours of the new geopolitical landscape.

We are delighted to announce that Mansoor Dailami, Manager of International Finance in the Bank’s Development Economic Vice Presidency and one of the lead authors of the report, will visit DIIS to launch the report.
