The past two decades have witnessed the rise of human rights based approaches in development practice, mainly among non-governmental organisations. But what do rights actually mean and how do they get put into practice rather than remaining as abstract concepts?

The past two decades have witnessed the rise of human rights based approaches in development practice, mainly among non-governmental organisations. But what do rights actually mean and how do they get put into practice rather than remaining as abstract concepts?

This workshop will look at how rights get operationalized in the practice of non-governmental organisations and reflect on rights practice from the point of view of the social relations of gender.

It will introduce analytical frameworks to clarify how gender relations constrains the exercise of rights and look at participant’s own programmatic experiences to understand rights practice and how gendered constraints are addressed. It will examine what competencies organisations working on gender and rights need and how to acquire these competencies.

The Gender Team at KIT (Netherlands) has in the past collaborated with Danish NGOs through the previous network on gender, Gendernet, in developing an online Gender and Rights Resource Guide and as well on capacity building workshops on gender and rights. This workshop coincides with the launch of the revised version of the Guide.

REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT: Participation is open to all, but with a maximum of two participants per organisation. The price is dkk 500 for members of FORDI, and dkk 1000 for non-members. The registration is binding. For cancelations received later than the 5th of December, the participant’s fee cannot be refunded.
