Druknedøden i Middelhavet

Migrant deaths in the Mediterranean make headlines in national and international media as do political plans to both avoid humanitarian crises and stem migration.

Many comment on the issue, but what are the facts and how can these be interpreted?

Last month, Tamara Last of VU University Amsterdam released the database on deaths at the borders of the southern EU (www.borderdeaths.org).

This database is part of a larger research project on border policies and sovereignty, which focuses on human rights and the right to life of irregular migrants.

Thomas Spijkerboer, professor of migration law at VU University Amsterdam and head of this research project, will present the database, and address the politics of the project.

Thomas Spijkerboer, Professor of Migration Law, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam
