China has lodged a complaint against US tariffs on Chinese tyres with the World Trade Organisation, deepening a trade row with Washington, informs aljazeera.net Tuesday.
– The United States has adopted protective measures against Chinese tyres shipped to the United States. This is a violation of WTO rules, Yao Jian, the Chinese commerce ministry spokesman, said.
Amid warnings that an increase in Chinese-made tyres had cost more than 5.000 US jobs, Barack Obama, the US president, imposed tariffs of 35 per cent on the Chinese imports last week, igniting the first trade row of his presidency.
Beijing has reacted strongly against the move, saying over the weekend that it would launch an “anti-dumping and anti-subsidy” investigation into imports of US vehicles and chicken products.
The Chinese authorities said that “in line with national laws and World Trade Organisation rules, the commerce ministry has started an anti-dumping and anti-subsidy examination of some imported US car products and chicken meat”.
