Background

Organized by the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Danish Ministry of Energy, Utilities and Climate and the Danish Institute for International Studies

Since COP15 in Copenhagen in 2009, an increasing amount of funds have been made available for climate related purposes in developing countries.

It is however also clear that substantial additional resources will be needed in order to help developing countries deal adequately with climate change, both to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to adapt to the consequences of climate change.

In extension of a recent evaluation of Denmark’s climate change funding to developing countries, and ahead of the crucial COP21 in Paris this December, the seminar will discuss:

  • What results have been achieved by climate finance to developing countries so far?
  • What works, and what are the main challenges in terms of achieving impact?
  • Funds from private sources are needed. How do we best engage the private sector?

Speakers

  • Neil Bird, Research Fellow, Overseas Development Institute, UK
  • Jacob Klingemann, Vice President, Climate investments, IFU
  • Rolf Hernø, Program Coordinator, CARE Denmark
  • Rohit Khanna, Program Manager ESMAP, World Bank
  • Pat Hardcastle, Evaluation Team Leader
