Emerging Brazil: The Security and Foreign Policy Aspirations of a Rising Power
As one of the four original BRIC-founding states, Brazil has by now established itself firmly as an emerging power of the 21st century.
Although its recent economic rise has not exactly followed a straight-line trajectory, Brazil has already managed to become the largest economy in Latin America and the 6th largest economy in the world. But perhaps even more importantly, Brasilia has succeeded in placing the former Portuguese colony at the centre of global attention.
Not only by hosting mega-events such as the FIFA world Cup in 2014 and the Olympic Games in 2016 but also by raising its voice and profile in international affairs, sometimes in coordination with other emerging powers and often in opposition to the United States.
This seminar turns the spotlight on the security and foreign policy implications of a rising Brazil that is in the process of redefining its regional and global profile.
