Climate Change and Rural Institutions: Learning from the Local Level

While the global discussions on climate change adaptation continue, there is already a range of efforts underway in provinces, districts and municipalities in developing countries to begin adapting to climate change.

In this seminar we will discuss findings from an on-going research programme which looks at how institutions at these levels are making sense of climate change, and how they are integrating an adaptation perspective into parallel efforts to manage disasters, decentralization and overall development.

The seminar will discuss and give examples of how local governments, agricultural advisory services, natural resource management agencies and farmer’s organisations in rural areas are responding to climate change, and how they relate to policies and actors at the national level.
