Hvordan støtter vi folkets røst i Europas nærhed?

TIME: Wednesday February 4th at 14.30 – 16.30 hours

VENUE: Danish Institute for Parties and Democracy (DIPS), Jemtelandsgade 1, Amager Copenhagen S (first floor – Kathmandu meeting room)

The European Endowment for Democracy (EED) will present the support it has provided to more than 130 democracy groups since its establishment.

In particular, how EED has supported activists working in very difficult circumstances in countries like Egypt, Syria, Ukraine and Azerbaijan and how EED has implemented its mandate to provide flexible and fast support to activists.

EED would also like to use this meeting to build stronger ties with Danish based organisations and groups working to support democratic development and reform in the European Neighbourhood.

Furthermore, the meeting will aim to have an exchange about the activities of the organisations present at the meeting in order to identify potential areas where EED could act in a complementary way to other donors and foundations.

Participants:

* Lisbeth Pilegaard, Member of EED’s Board of Governors and Executive Committee

* Peter Søndergaard, EED Director of Programmes

* Jana Kobzova, EED Programme Officer East

* Chadi Sidhom, EED Programme Officer South

About the European Endowment for Democracy

The European Endowment for Democracy is an independent grant giving institution that supports actors of democratic change in the European Neighbourhood.

EED was established in 2013 as a joint initiative of European States and EU institutions with significant support from Denmark. EED has so far supported more than 130 democracy groups in the European Neighbourhood.

EED works in a flexible way and seeks to minimize the bureaucratic burden on its potential beneficiaries.

It has the possibility of providing direct support to political actors, civil society organisations (including non-registered groups), platforms (formal and informal) and individuals.

EED support has focused on

1) the creation or preservation of spaces for freedom of expression,

2) capacity-building of political actors and parties,

3) increasing the level of political participation of citizens,

4) support of pro-democracy groups and activists in repressive and hostile environments.
