When Dr Inge Genefke in April 1974 called for doctors to help investigate torture stories in Chile, she started the anti-torture movement not only the first group of doctors related to Amnesty International in Denmark but also the global work for rehabilitating victims of torture.

Now, 40 years later, an event organised by the IRCT celebrates the start of the work against torture.

The event, taking place at Domus Medica, Copenhagen, on 8 April 2014 in the evening. Dr Lilla Hardi, from Budapest, Hungary, will be awarded the prize in recognition of her work in preventing torture over the last 20 years.

Before the event Dr Lilla Hardi will also be present at a press conference at the International Press Centre (IPC) Skindergade 7 in Copenhagen, from 1100- 1150 hrs on Tuesday 8 April 2014.

Psychiatrist Dr. Lilla Hardi – the winner of the prestigious Inge Genefke Award 2014 – will tell about the work of the Hungarian anti-torture center Cordelia in Budapest and the work for human rights in Hungary.

At the meeting at IPC with the foreign and Danish press there will also be short statements by Dr Inge Genefke, founder of the Rehabilitation and Research Centre for Torture Victims (RCT) and the International Council for rehabilitation for victims of Torture (IRCT) and her husband Dr. Bent Sørensen, who has also been an outstanding person in the rehabilitationwork for victims of torture through rehabilitation groups and centres across the world, and as a member of the UN Committee against Torture and the CPT, the Committee of the European Council for Preventing Torture,
