The exhibit showcases portraits of over a dozen journalists who have received support from the Safety Fund, money donated by Danish journalists to the Danish Union of Journalists in a show of solidarity with their international colleagues under threat.

The assistance consists of urgent legal and medical help, financial assistance and evacuation support. In the past two years, 85 journalists and photographers have been assisted through the Safety Fund.

IMS has been assisting journalists in peril and under threat for several years. In 2011 the assistance was bolstered with funds from the Danish Union of Journalists.

“We have been collecting money from our members to help colleagues in peril around the world for over a decade. It is our duty as a union to help our less fortunate colleagues who face threats on a daily basis”, said Mogens Blicher Bjerregård, President of the Danish Union of Journalists speaking to IMS in May 2012.

In collaboration with international journalist assistance organisations such as the Committee to Protect Journalists and Reporters without Borders, the IMS Safety Fund has so far provided support to 85 journalists.

The opening of the exhibition takes place on Tuesday 8 October in Copenhagen. The event takes place in Danish and is by invitation only. Please contact Helle Wahlberg, IMS Head of Communications on [email protected] to receive an invitation.
