One of the major develpments of our time is China’s rising as a new super power. China is rapidly regaining its old position as “The Middle Kingdom”. Economic growth rates of 8 – 10 per cent ignore the global financial crisis and
characterise the new China.
Furthermore, the country is now a creditor offering loans to the rest of the world, including the US. Hundreds of millions of Chinese have already said goodbye to a life in poverty as new infrastructure and building projects change the face of China.
TOPICS OF INTEREST:
• Confucianism – the cultural and spiritual background for China’s development through millennia
• China’s journey from a developing country towards a nation with strong economic growth
• China and the environment
• China’s foreign and security policies
• China in Africa
• Chinese film
• China and human rights

SEMINAR SERIES
This seminar with a focus on China is the first out of four weekend courses to be held between 2010 and 2012 organized by International People’s College in cooperation with Helsingør Folkeuniversitet.
In these seminars we will take a closer look at the BRIC countries – Brazil, Russia, India and China – four countries with growing economical and political influence in the world.
WHAT IS IPC?
Den Internationale Højskole/International People’s College is a unique Danish folkehøjskole (non-formal residential school for adults) with an international, cross-cultural focus. Students and staff come from around 35 different countries each term.
IPC was founded in 1921 – in the ashes of World War I – to enable its students to promote international understanding and world peace.
Since then, people over the age of 18 from all continents and cultures have had the opportunity to become global citizens while living and studying under the same roof in Elsinore.
