Background

The seminar aims at discussing questions of limits of tolerance, democracy and freedom of speech from a scholarly perspective departing from the two contexts of France and Denmark and how nativist discourses and racism based on culturalist understandings contribute in propelling ideas of being a threatened community.

The seminar concludes a series of workshops in the NordForsk funded network, NOPO – Nordic Populism.

NOPO’s activities started in 2011 with the aim to create, develop and stimulate a closer activity and collaboration among scholars in the Nordic countries (and beyond) who study the phenomenon of populism from various perspectives, methodological and theoretical approaches and disciplinary areas.
